Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.82/6.18.23/6.19.13/7.0.0. It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function renesas_usb3. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: usb: gadget: renesas_usb3: validate endpoint index in standard request handlers The GET_STATUS and SET/CLEAR_FEATURE handlers extract the endpoint number from the host-supplied wIndex without any sort of validation. Fix this up by validating the number of endpoints actually match up with the number the device has before attempting to dereference a pointer based on this math. This is just like what was done in commit ee0d382feb44 ("usb: gadget: aspeed_udc: validate endpoint index for ast udc") for the aspeed driver.
It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-31615 since 03/09/2026. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 310300 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2026-31615), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 6.12.83, 6.18.24, 6.19.14 or 7.0.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
