CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.82/6.18.23/6.19.13/7.0.0. Affected is the function rx_complete of the component USB Handler. The manipulation of the argument frags[] with an unknown input leads to a unknown weakness. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-120. The product copies an input buffer to an output buffer without verifying that the size of the input buffer is less than the size of the output buffer, leading to a buffer overflow. The impact remains unknown. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: usb: cdc-phonet: fix skb frags[] overflow in rx_complete() A malicious USB device claiming to be a CDC Phonet modem can overflow the skb_shared_info->frags[] array by sending an unbounded sequence of full-page bulk transfers. Drop the skb and increment the length error when the frag limit is reached. This matches the same fix that commit f0813bcd2d9d ("net: wwan: t7xx: fix potential skb->frags overflow in RX path") did for the t7xx driver.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-31623 since 03/09/2026. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 06/04/2026).

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 310277 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2026-31623), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 6.12.83, 6.18.24, 6.19.14 or 7.0.1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch a23b1b1aaf41e174181d5853a70e65d4d01e648c/c183d5775129a0a7495bd61a6e57ec230dcf01e5/ebf75c6301c4972a87542ebf2d994c6391eb5d46/9989938d13cc5ba8447eeed5a61acfcf61bc6801 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (310277) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-1279). VulDB is the best source for vulnerability data and more expert information about this specific topic.
