uuidjs uuid up to 13.x out-of-range pointer offset

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in uuidjs uuid up to 13.x and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code block. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use of out-of-range pointer offset vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-823. The product performs pointer arithmetic on a valid pointer, but it uses an offset that can point outside of the intended range of valid memory locations for the resulting pointer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

uuid is for the creation of RFC9562 (formerly RFC4122) UUIDs. Prior to 14.0.0, v3, v5, and v6 accept external output buffers but do not reject out-of-range writes (small buf or large offset). This allows silent partial writes into caller-provided buffers. This vulnerability is fixed in 14.0.0.

The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-41907 since 04/22/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 310519 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2026-41907), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 14.0.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
