Details
A vulnerability was found in KDE KCoreAddons up to 6.24. It has been classified as critical. Affected is the function sendInput. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a control sequence vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-150. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could be interpreted as escape, meta, or control character sequences when they are sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In KDE KCoreAddons before 6.25, KShell::quoteArgs is intended to safely quote arguments so that they can be passed to a shell command. This parsing does not adequately handle metacharacters, leading to an escape from the shell. All applications relying on this method in a security-critical path to handle user input are affected and could be exploited. In particular, because sendInput() sends a string to a terminal, a control character such as \x01 can be used during injection.
The advisory is available at invent.kde.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-41526 since 04/20/2026. The exploitability is told to be difficult. Local access is required to approach this attack. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
