OpenClaw up to 2026.3.30 Environment Variable PIP_INDEX_URL/UV_INDEX_URL incomplete blacklist

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Performing a manipulation of the argument PIP_INDEX_URL/UV_INDEX_URL results in incomplete blacklist. This vulnerability is cataloged as CVE-2026-41391. The attack must be initiated from a local position. There is no exploit available. It is recommended to upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in OpenClaw up to 2026.3.30. This affects some unknown processing of the component Environment Variable Handler. The manipulation of the argument PIP_INDEX_URL/UV_INDEX_URL with an unknown input leads to a incomplete blacklist vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-184. The product implements a protection mechanism that relies on a list of inputs (or properties of inputs) that are not allowed by policy or otherwise require other action to neutralize before additional processing takes place, but the list is incomplete, leading to resultant weaknesses. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

OpenClaw before 2026.3.31 fails to properly sanitize PIP_INDEX_URL and UV_INDEX_URL environment variables in host execution contexts, allowing attackers to redirect Python package-index traffic. Attackers can exploit this bypass to intercept or manipulate package management operations by injecting malicious index URLs through unsanitized environment variables.

The weakness was shared by KeenSecurityLab and qclawer as GHSA-7ggg-pvrf-458v. The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-41391 since 04/20/2026. The exploitability is told to be difficult. An attack has to be approached locally. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1562.006 for this issue.

Upgrading to version 2026.3.31 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 7ae1bb0c7799fd0cbd2d4de7b0f5b8039837ab8d is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
