Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in OpenClaw up to 2026.4.1. Affected is some unknown functionality. The manipulation of the argument remoteWorkspaceDir/remoteAgentWorkspaceDir with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
OpenClaw before 2026.4.2 contains an arbitrary directory deletion vulnerability in mirror mode that allows attackers to delete remote directories by influencing remoteWorkspaceDir and remoteAgentWorkspaceDir configuration values. Attackers can manipulate these OpenShell config paths to cause mirror sync operations to delete unintended remote directory contents and replace them with uploaded workspace data.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-41383 since 04/20/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.
Upgrading to version 2026.4.2 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch b21c9840c2e38f4bb338d031511b479d5f07ca25 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
