Details
A vulnerability was found in GnuTLS (version now known) and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is some unknown processing of the component Certificate Status Protocol. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a early validation vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-179. The product validates input before applying protection mechanisms that modify the input, which could allow an attacker to bypass the validation via dangerous inputs that only arise after the modification. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
A flaw was found in gnutls. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by presenting a specially crafted Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) response during a TLS handshake. Due to a logic error in how gnutls processes multi-record OCSP responses, a client with OCSP verification enabled may incorrectly accept a revoked server certificate, potentially leading to a compromise of trust.
The advisory is available at access.redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-3832 since 03/09/2026. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 312106 (CentOS 9 : gnutls-3.8.10-4.el9), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (312106) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-1312). If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
