Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in FRRouting FRR up to 10.5.3. This affects the function TLV_SIZE of the component Segment Routing TLV Parser. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:
FRRouting before 10.5.3 contains an integer overflow vulnerability in seven OSPF Traffic Engineering and Segment Routing TLV parser functions where a uint16_t accumulator variable truncates uint32_t values returned by the TLV_SIZE() macro, causing the loop termination condition to fail while pointer advancement continues unchecked. Attackers with an established OSPF adjacency can send a crafted LS Update packet with a malicious Type 10 or Type 11 Opaque LSA to trigger out-of-bounds memory reads and crash all affected routers in the OSPF area or autonomous system.
The weakness was released by Kazuma Matsumoto. The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-28532 since 02/27/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. The attack needs to approached within the local network. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 321747 (SUSE SLES12 Security Update : frr (SUSE-SU-2026:2455-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 10.5.3 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (321747) and EUVD (EUVD-2026-26418). If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
