Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.21/6.19.11. Affected is the function lpvo_usb: of the component USB Interface. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: gpib: lpvo_usb: fix memory leak on disconnect The driver iterates over the registered USB interfaces during GPIB attach and takes a reference to their USB devices until a match is found. These references are never released which leads to a memory leak when devices are disconnected. Fix the leak by dropping the unnecessary references.
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-31760 since 03/09/2026. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
Upgrading to version 6.18.22 or 6.19.12 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 21f942879f86108b300a23683e67483f8c358fc7/706f4fe2dacc95d65e7c8dff321711f024bb8d20/5cefb52c1af6f69ea719e42788f6ec6a087eb74c is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
