Linux Kernel up to 6.12.80/6.18.21/6.19.11 Tegra Crypto Driver denial of service

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.80/6.18.21/6.19.11 and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown function of the component Tegra Crypto Driver. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: crypto: tegra - Add missing CRYPTO_ALG_ASYNC The tegra crypto driver failed to set the CRYPTO_ALG_ASYNC on its asynchronous algorithms, causing the crypto API to select them for users that request only synchronous algorithms. This causes crashes (at least). Fix this by adding the flag like what the other drivers do. Also remove the unnecessary CRYPTO_ALG_TYPE_* flags, since those just get ignored and overridden by the registration function anyway.

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-31739 since 03/09/2026. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 324007 (CentOS 9 : kernel-5.14.0-719.el9), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 6.12.81, 6.18.22 or 6.19.12 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch bdbf027a4504b4a86740de6beb6d18a957331839/3aea268b6d5cde3b087df9eeecc3bc620aa09513/429d05565eb19ee545d8a8395991372adbe4daf3/4b56770d345524fc2acc143a2b85539cf7d74bc1 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (324007) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-1346). If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
