Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.21/6.19.11. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function netdev_sent_queue. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a buffer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-120. The product copies an input buffer to an output buffer without verifying that the size of the input buffer is less than the size of the output buffer, leading to a buffer overflow. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: xilinx: axienet: Fix BQL accounting for multi-BD TX packets When a TX packet spans multiple buffer descriptors (scatter-gather), axienet_free_tx_chain sums the per-BD actual length from descriptor status into a caller-provided accumulator. That sum is reset on each NAPI poll. If the BDs for a single packet complete across different polls, the earlier bytes are lost and never credited to BQL. This causes BQL to think bytes are permanently in-flight, eventually stalling the TX queue. The SKB pointer is stored only on the last BD of a packet. When that BD completes, use skb->len for the byte count instead of summing per-BD status lengths. This matches netdev_sent_queue(), which debits skb->len, and naturally survives across polls because no partial packet contributes to the accumulator.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-43031 since 05/01/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $5k-$25k (estimation calculated on 05/01/2026).
Upgrading to version 6.18.22 or 6.19.12 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 2a0323a913109b52bfc9f5ea7b92a1b249e07d3e/3c3a6b9020c01fde7b22e8550105de0b59904f61/d1978d03e86785872871bff9c2623174b10740de is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
