Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Pillow. It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the component PSD Tile Extents Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Pillow is a Python imaging library. From version 10.3.0 to before version 12.2.0, processing a malicious PSD file could lead to memory corruption, potentially resulting in a crash or arbitrary code execution. This issue has been patched in version 12.2.0.

The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-42311. The exploitation is known to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 313601 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2026-42311), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
