Redis up to 8.6.2 Data Structure processCommandAndResetClient use after free

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

You should upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Redis up to 8.6.2 and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function processCommandAndResetClient of the component Data Structure Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Redis is an in-memory data structure store. In redis-server from 7.2.0 until 8.6.3, the unblock client flow does not handle an error return from `processCommandAndResetClient` when re-executing a blocked command. If a blocked client is evicted during this flow, an authenticated attacker can trigger a use-after-free that may lead to remote code execution. This has been patched in version 8.6.3.

The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-23479 since 01/13/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 315122 (Fedora 42 : valkey (2026-114b1e5d3a)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 8.6.3 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (315122), EUVD (EUVD-2026-27396) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-1370). If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
