Details
A vulnerability was found in Redis up to 8.6.2. It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown code block of the component Data Structure Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. Impacted is integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Redis is an in-memory data structure store. In all versions of redis-server with Lua scripting, an authenticated attacker can exploit the master-replica synchronization mechanism to trigger a use-after-free on replicas where replica-read-only is disabled or can be disabled, which may lead to remote code execution. A workaround is to prevent users from executing Lua scripts or avoid using replicas where replica-read-only is disabled. This is patched in version 8.6.3.
The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-23631 since 01/14/2026. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 315122 (Fedora 42 : valkey (2026-114b1e5d3a)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 8.6.3 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (315122), EUVD (EUVD-2026-27398) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-1370). If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
