Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in RedisBloom up to 2.8.19. This issue affects an unknown part. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a heap-based overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-122. A heap overflow condition is a buffer overflow, where the buffer that can be overwritten is allocated in the heap portion of memory, generally meaning that the buffer was allocated using a routine such as malloc(). Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
RedisBloom is a probabilistic data structures module for Redis. In all versions of RedisBloom before 2.8.20, the module does not properly validate serialized values processed through the Redis RESTORE command. An authenticated attacker with permission to execute RESTORE on a server with the RedisBloom module loaded can supply a crafted serialized payload that triggers invalid memory access and may lead to remote code execution. A workaround is to restrict access to the RESTORE command with ACL rules. This issue is fixed in version 2.8.20.
The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-25589 since 02/03/2026. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
Upgrading to version 2.8.20 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at github.com.
The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-1370). Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
