Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.74/6.18.15/6.19.5. Affected by this issue is some unknown processing of the component ALSA. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ALSA: mixer: oss: Add card disconnect checkpoints ALSA OSS mixer layer calls the kcontrol ops rather individually, and pending calls might be not always caught at disconnecting the device. For avoiding the potential UAF scenarios, add sanity checks of the card disconnection at each entry point of OSS mixer accesses. The rwsem is taken just before that check, hence the rest context should be covered by that properly.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-43126 since 05/01/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 05/30/2026).
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 317729 (SUSE SLES12 Security Update : kernel (SUSE-SU-2026:2068-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 6.12.75, 6.18.16 or 6.19.6 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch ae583f113d15fa97e5234133c20d09f8e6214e47/e6645e625480cdf1079a4265f758d13b70721029/8c097cf736993454acf3f711a3b376d6c7ad8965/084d5d44418148662365eced3e126ad1a81ee3e2 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (317729) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-1405). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
