Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.15/6.19.5 and classified as critical. This issue affects the function brcmf_sdio_remove of the component wifi. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: brcmfmac: Fix potential kernel oops when probe fails When probe of the sdio brcmfmac device fails for some reasons (i.e. missing firmware), the sdiodev->bus is set to error instead of NULL, thus the cleanup later in brcmf_sdio_remove() tries to free resources via invalid bus pointer. This happens because sdiodev->bus is set 2 times: first in brcmf_sdio_probe() and second time in brcmf_sdiod_probe(). Fix this by chaning the brcmf_sdio_probe() function to return the error code and set sdio->bus only there.
It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-43144 since 05/01/2026. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 05/18/2026).
