Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.74/6.18.15/6.19.5. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function buffer_funcs of the component amdgpu. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/amdgpu: fix NULL pointer issue buffer funcs If SDMA block not enabled, buffer_funcs will not initialize, fix the null pointer issue if buffer_funcs not initialized.
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2025-71294 since 05/06/2026. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 326000 (SUSE SLED15: cluster-md-kmp-default / dlm-kmp-default / gfs2-kmp-default / etc (SUSE-SU-2026:2800-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 6.12.75, 6.18.16 or 6.19.6 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 29fd416e0e08aa6d5a97fd313749d08d83de0826/276028fd9b60bbcc68796d1124b6b58298f4ca8a/3e849a93bff40f0c88a8aafba062b1de0ec2797b/9877a865d62c9c3e0f4cc369dc9ca9f7f24f5ee9 is able to eliminate this problem.
