Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.19.5. Affected by this vulnerability is the function of_get_display_timings. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a reference count vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-911. The product uses a reference count to manage a resource, but it does not update or incorrectly updates the reference count. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fbdev: of: display_timing: fix refcount leak in of_get_display_timings() of_parse_phandle() returns a device_node with refcount incremented, which is stored in 'entry' and then copied to 'native_mode'. When the error paths at lines 184 or 192 jump to 'entryfail', native_mode's refcount is not decremented, causing a refcount leak. Fix this by changing the goto target from 'entryfail' to 'timingfail', which properly calls of_node_put(native_mode) before cleanup.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-43264 since 05/01/2026. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 317729 (SUSE SLES12 Security Update : kernel (SUSE-SU-2026:2068-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
