Linux Kernel up to 6.18.15/6.19.5 z_erofs_transform_plain out-of-bounds

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.15/6.19.5. It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function z_erofs_transform_plain. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: erofs: fix interlaced plain identification for encoded extents Only plain data whose start position and on-disk physical length are both aligned to the block size should be classified as interlaced plain extents. Otherwise, it must be treated as shifted plain extents. This issue was found by syzbot using a crafted compressed image containing plain extents with unaligned physical lengths, which can cause OOB read in z_erofs_transform_plain().

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-43166 since 05/01/2026. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 05/17/2026).
