Qwibit NanoClaw Message messages_out.id/content.files path traversal

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability identified as critical has been detected in Qwibit NanoClaw. This vulnerability affects unknown code of the component Message Handler. This manipulation of the argument messages_out.id/content.files causes path traversal. This vulnerability appears as CVE-2026-7875. The attack requires local access. There is no available exploit. Applying a patch is the recommended action to fix this issue.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Qwibit NanoClaw (affected version not known). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown functionality of the component Message Handler. The manipulation of the argument messages_out.id/content.files with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

NanoClaw version 1.2.0 and prior contains a host/container filesystem boundary vulnerability in outbound attachment handling and outbox cleanup that allows a compromised or prompt-injected container to read files outside the intended outbox directory by supplying crafted messages_out.id and content.files values or creating symlinked outbox files. Attackers can exploit this vulnerability to trigger host-side reads of arbitrary files and in some cases achieve recursive deletion of paths outside the intended cleanup target.

The weakness was presented by Chia Min Jun Lennon. The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-7875 since 05/05/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.

Applying the patch 7814e45 is able to eliminate this problem.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at EUVD (EUVD-2026-27873). If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
