Details
A vulnerability was found in OpenStack Cyborg up to 14.0.0/15.0.0/16.0.0. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown function of the component API Endpoint. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a authorization vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-863. The product performs an authorization check when an actor attempts to access a resource or perform an action, but it does not correctly perform the check. This allows attackers to bypass intended access restrictions. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
OpenStack Cyborg before 16.0.1 uses rule:allow (check_str='@') as the default policy for multiple API endpoints. This unconditionally authorizes any request carrying a valid Keystone token regardless of roles, project membership, or scope. An authenticated user with zero role assignments can complete various actions such as reprogramming FPGA bitstreams on arbitrary compute nodes via agent RPC.
The advisory is available at bugs.launchpad.net. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-40213 since 04/10/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
