Details
A vulnerability has been found in Dapr up to 1.15.13/1.16.13/1.17.4 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown part. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Dapr is a portable, event-driven, runtime for building distributed applications across cloud and edge. From versions 1.3.0 to before 1.15.14, 1.16.0-rc.1 to before 1.16.14, and 1.17.0-rc.1 to before 1.17.5, a vulnerability has been found in Dapr that allows bypassing access control policies for service invocation using reserved URL characters and path traversal sequences in method paths. The ACL normalized the method path independently from the dispatch layer, so the ACL evaluated one path while the target application received a different one. This issue has been patched in versions 1.15.14, 1.16.14, and 1.17.5.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-41491 since 04/20/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.
Upgrading to version 1.15.14, 1.16.14 or 1.17.5 eliminates this vulnerability.
