Linux Kernel up to 6.19.11 usb geth_alloc reference count

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-43343. No exploit is available. It is recommended to upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.19.11. It has been classified as critical. Affected is the function geth_alloc of the component usb. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a reference count vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-911. The product uses a reference count to manage a resource, but it does not update or incorrectly updates the reference count. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: usb: gadget: f_subset: Fix unbalanced refcnt in geth_free geth_alloc() increments the reference count, but geth_free() fails to decrement it. This prevents the configuration of attributes via configfs after unlinking the function. Decrement the reference count in geth_free() to ensure proper cleanup.

The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-43343 since 05/01/2026. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.

Upgrading to version 5.10.253, 5.15.203, 6.1.168, 6.6.134, 6.12.81, 6.18.22 or 6.19.12 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch a932b171554714b1bca313b853c7aa9f2930f9aa/d7d702407b61e96286a15b6e715572f541a8d41c/3f5bfc550a40d7493b1cf09540ed6b412b3b82be/75776a055b656873319c3830fed471daef3ceb23/cc8ec610cd14c093a19371691a7ce1ee5421e829/3d436670b47415da042452618fb5d8e317ab095f/23e4851ce348a329d974e84e828155dda9f52122/caa27923aacd8a5869207842f2ab1657c6c0c7bc is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
