Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.18/6.19.8. It has been classified as critical. Affected is an unknown code of the component USB Interface. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: mctp: fix device leak on probe failure Driver core holds a reference to the USB interface and its parent USB device while the interface is bound to a driver and there is no need to take additional references unless the structures are needed after disconnect. This driver takes a reference to the USB device during probe but does not to release it on probe failures. Drop the redundant device reference to fix the leak, reduce cargo culting, make it easier to spot drivers where an extra reference is needed, and reduce the risk of further memory leaks.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-43375 since 05/01/2026. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
Upgrading to version 6.18.19 or 6.19.9 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 3224990fb16a831aabc50b67c74f5d0074ce80dd/ec9538f9b5cd1db5e8c612aa636b6119b6355c5d/224a0d284c3caf1951302d1744a714784febed71 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
