A vulnerability was found in RSAVAGE Crypt::PasswdMD5 up to 1.42 on Perl. It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is the function Crypt::PasswdMD5. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a weak prng vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-338. The product uses a Pseudo-Random Number Generator (PRNG) in a security context, but the PRNG's algorithm is not cryptographically strong. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. Crypt::PasswdMD5 versions through 1.42 for Perl generates insecure random values for salts. The built-in rand function is predictable, and unsuitable for cryptography.
