Details
A vulnerability was found in SmarterTools SmarterMail and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is some unknown processing of the file /api/v1/report/summary/ of the component API Endpoint. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
SmarterTools SmarterMail builds prior to 9560 contain a local file inclusion vulnerability in the /api/v1/report/summary/{type} API endpoint that allows authenticated users to read arbitrary .json files on the system. Attackers can exploit this vulnerability combined with weak encryption algorithms and hardcoded keys to decrypt and access stored passwords and 2FA secrets for all users.
The weakness was shared by Dninh. The advisory is available at smartertools.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-7807 since 05/04/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy.
