Details
A vulnerability was found in Pillow up to 12.1.x. It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown part. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
Pillow is a Python imaging library. Prior to version 12.2.0, if a font advances for each glyph by an exceeding large amount, when Pillow keeps track of the current position, it may lead to an integer overflow. This issue has been patched in version 12.2.0.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-42308 since 04/26/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
