Details
A vulnerability was found in pgAdmin 4 up to 9.14. It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown function of the component Import/Export. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
OS command injection (CWE-78) vulnerability in pgAdmin 4 Import/Export query export. User-supplied input was interpolated directly into a psql \copy metacommand template without sanitization. An authenticated user could inject ") TO PROGRAM 'cmd'" to break out of the \copy (...) context and achieve arbitrary command execution on the pgAdmin server, or ") TO '/path'" for arbitrary file write. Additional fields (format, on_error, log_verbosity) were also raw-interpolated and exploitable. Fix adds a parens-balance parser modeled on psql's strtokx tokenizer, allow-lists format/on_error/log_verbosity, rejects null bytes in the query, and tightens type and gating checks. This issue affects pgAdmin 4: before 9.15.
The weakness was published by Chung Kim. It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-7816 since 05/04/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1202 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
Upgrading to version 9.15 eliminates this vulnerability.
