Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in zen-browser desktop up to 1.19.12a. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component Address Bar Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a clickjacking vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-451. The user interface (UI) does not properly represent critical information to the user, allowing the information - or its source - to be obscured or spoofed. This is often a component in phishing attacks. Impacted is integrity. The summary by CVE is:
Zen is a firefox-based browser. Prior to 1.19.12b, the ZEN Browser incorrectly truncates long hostnames in the address bar and shows only the attacker-controlled prefix of the subdomain, hiding the actual registrable domain (eTLD+1). As a result, an attacker can craft extremely long malicious subdomains that visually imitate trusted brands, and the browser will display only the spoofed prefix, misleading users about the actual origin of the site. This directly compromises the URL bar as a security indicator and creates a phishing/supply-chain attack vector. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.19.12b.
The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-44659 since 05/07/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1566.003 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 1.19.12b eliminates this vulnerability.
