Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Axis Communications AB AXIS OS up to 12.10.3. Affected by this issue is an unknown function of the component ACAP Configuration File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-35. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that should be within a restricted directory, but it does not properly neutralize '.../...//' (doubled triple dot slash) sequences that can resolve to a location that is outside of that directory. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
An ACAP configuration file lacked sufficient input validation, which could allow a path traversal attack leading to potential privilege escalation. This vulnerability can only be exploited if the Axis device is configured to allow the installation of unsigned ACAP applications, and if an attacker convinces the victim to install a malicious ACAP application.
The weakness was released by Mucoze. The advisory is shared for download at axis.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-0804 since 01/09/2026. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack needs to be approached locally. The exploitation needs additional levels of successful authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.
Upgrading to version 12.10.4 eliminates this vulnerability.
