Cubecart up to 6.6.x readgzfile code injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability described as critical has been identified in Cubecart up to 6.6.x. This impacts the function readgzfile. Such manipulation leads to code injection. This vulnerability is documented as CVE-2026-44377. The attack can be executed remotely. There is not any exploit available. Upgrading the affected component is recommended.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Cubecart up to 6.6.x. Affected by this issue is the function readgzfile. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

CubeCart is an ecommerce software solution. Prior to 6.7.0, an Authenticated Server-Side Template Injection (SSTI) vulnerability exists in multiple modules of CubeCart (including Email Templates and Documents). The application unsafely evaluates user-supplied input directly through the Smarty template engine. By leveraging this, an authenticated attacker with administrative privileges can bypass current restrictions and call native PHP functions within the templates, such as readgzfile() to read sensitive configuration files, or error_log() to write a malicious PHP web shell, ultimately achieving Information Disclosure and full Remote Code Execution (RCE). This vulnerability is fixed in 6.7.0.

The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-44377 since 05/05/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. The exploitation needs additional levels of successful authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

Upgrading to version 6.7.0 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 76d783c8c4d87a8a90dbfef1344a2733e7c6434c is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
