The affected component should be upgraded.
Details
A vulnerability has been found in simdjson simdjson-builder up to 4.6.3 and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function string_builder::escape_and_append. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
An integer overflow vulnerability in the simdjson document-builder API allows incorrect buffer size calculations in "string_builder::escape_and_append()" when processing very large input strings on platforms with limited "size_t" width (e.g., 32-bit builds). The overflow can cause insufficient buffer allocation, leading to out-of-bounds memory reads in SIMD routines and potentially resulting in information disclosure, memory corruption, or malformed JSON output. This vulnerability has been fixed in 4.6.4 release
The weakness was released by Michał Majchrowicz. The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-8295 since 05/11/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 4.6.4 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at github.com.
