A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in open-webui Open WebUI up to 0.1.123. Affected by this issue is some unknown processing of the component Upload Request Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Open WebUI is a self-hosted artificial intelligence platform designed to operate entirely offline. Prior to 0.1.124, when attaching files to a promp, the name of the file is derived from the original HTTP upload request and is not validated or sanitized. This allows for users to upload files with names containing dot-segments in the file path and traverse out of the intended uploads directory. Effectively, users can upload files anywhere on the filesystem the user running the web server has permission. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.1.124.
