Details
A vulnerability has been found in GnuTLS (version now known) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing of the component Datagram Transport Layer Security Packet Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input behavior vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-475. The behavior of this function is undefined unless its control parameter is set to a specific value. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
A flaw was found in gnutls. A remote attacker could exploit an issue in the Datagram Transport Layer Security (DTLS) packet reordering logic. The comparator function, responsible for ordering DTLS packets by sequence numbers, did not correctly handle packets with duplicate sequence numbers. This could lead to unstable packet ordering or undefined behavior, resulting in a denial of service.
The advisory is shared for download at access.redhat.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-42009 since 04/23/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
