MongoDB C Driver up to 1.30.7/2.2.3 Legacy GridFS API improper validation of specified index, position, or offset in input

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in MongoDB C Driver up to 1.30.7/2.2.3. This vulnerability affects an unknown part of the component Legacy GridFS API. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a improper validation of specified index, position, or offset in input vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-1285. The product receives input that is expected to specify an index, position, or offset into an indexable resource such as a buffer or file, but it does not validate or incorrectly validates that the specified index/position/offset has the required properties. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

The MongoDB C Driver's legacy GridFS API accepts malformed file metadata from the database without adequate validation. Crafted documents in a GridFS collection may cause any application that reads those files via the legacy API to either crash (via a division-by-zero) or silently leak process memory contents (via an out-of-bounds read).

The advisory is available at jira.mongodb.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-9100 since 05/20/2026. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 316388 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2026-9100), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 1.30.8 or 2.2.4 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (316388) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-1621). If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
