Linux Kernel up to 7.1-rc3 rds iov_iter_get_pages2 infinite loop

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Linux Kernel up to 7.1-rc3. This affects the function iov_iter_get_pages2 of the component rds. The manipulation results in infinite loop. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-43494. No exploit is available. You should upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 7.1-rc3. It has been classified as critical. Affected is the function iov_iter_get_pages2 of the component rds. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a infinite loop vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-835. The product contains an iteration or loop with an exit condition that cannot be reached, i.e., an infinite loop. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net/rds: reset op_nents when zerocopy page pin fails When iov_iter_get_pages2() fails in rds_message_zcopy_from_user(), the pinned pages are released with put_page(), and rm->data.op_mmp_znotifier is cleared. But we fail to properly clear rm->data.op_nents. Later when rds_message_purge() is called from rds_sendmsg() the cleanup loop iterates over the incorrectly non zero number of op_nents and frees them again. Fix this by properly resetting op_nents when it should be in rds_message_zcopy_from_user().

The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-43494 since 05/01/2026. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 316034 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2026-43494), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 7.1-rc4 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch e174929793195e0cd6a4adb0cad731b39f9019b4 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (316034), EUVD (EUVD-2026-31267) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-1633). If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
