Details
A vulnerability has been found in x-sys-windows up to 0.43.x on Go and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is the function NewNTUnicodeString. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. As an impact it is known to affect integrity. The summary by CVE is:
NewNTUnicodeString does not check for string length overflow. When provided with a string that overflows the maximum size of a NTUnicodeString (a 16-bit number of bytes), it returns a truncated string rather than an error.
The advisory is shared at go.dev. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-39824 since 04/07/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 0.44.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-1669). If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
