Details
A vulnerability was found in pacote up to 11.2.7. It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function addGitSha. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a redos vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-1333. The product uses a regular expression with an inefficient, possibly exponential worst-case computational complexity that consumes excessive CPU cycles. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
Versions of the package pacote from 11.2.7 and before 21.5.1 are vulnerable to Denial of Service (DoS) via the addGitSha function. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability by supplying a specially crafted spec.rawSpec value that triggers the function’s regex replacement and string-manipulation logic, causing excessive CPU consumption and potentially stalling or crashing the process.
The advisory is available at security.snyk.io. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-9496 since 05/25/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1449.003 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
