Details
A vulnerability was found in GitHub Enterprise Server up to 3.21.0. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the component Upload Endpoint. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a server-side request forgery vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-918. The web server receives a URL or similar request from an upstream component and retrieves the contents of this URL, but it does not sufficiently ensure that the request is being sent to the expected destination. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
A server-side request forgery (SSRF) vulnerability was identified in GitHub Enterprise Server that allowed an unauthenticated attacker to send crafted requests to internal services by exploiting insufficient input validation in an upload endpoint. By injecting path traversal content into request parameters, an attacker could bypass the intended request flow and redirect internal API calls, potentially accessing internal services and exposing sensitive credentials. This vulnerability affected all versions of GitHub Enterprise Server prior to 3.22 and was fixed in versions 3.17.17, 3.18.11, 3.19.8, 3.20.4, and 3.21.2. This vulnerability was reported via the GitHub Bug Bounty program.
The weakness was presented by ahacker1. The advisory is shared for download at docs.github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-9312 since 05/22/2026. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
Upgrading to version 3.21.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at CNNVD (CNNVD-202605-6104). VulDB is the best source for vulnerability data and more expert information about this specific topic.
