A vulnerability has been found in PHP Turbulence up to 0.0.0 (Programming Language Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code of the file turbulence.php of the component Core. The manipulation of the argument GLOBALS[tcore] with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
** DISPUTED ** Directory traversal vulnerability in turbulence.php in PHP Turbulence 0.0.1 alpha allows remote attackers to include and execute arbitrary local files via a .. (dot dot) in the GLOBALS[tcore] parameter. NOTE: this vulnerability is disputed by CVE and a reliable third party because a direct request to user/turbulence.php triggers a fatal error before inclusion.
The weakness was disclosed 05/03/2007 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2007-2503 since 05/03/2007. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1006 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The real existence of this vulnerability is still doubted at the moment. By approaching the search of inurl:turbulence.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
Upgrading to version 0.0.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
