Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.1.164/6.6.127/6.12.74/6.18.13/6.19.3 and classified as critical. This issue affects the function ocelot_port_xmit_inj. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-74. The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: mscc: ocelot: add missing lock protection in ocelot_port_xmit_inj() ocelot_port_xmit_inj() calls ocelot_can_inject() and ocelot_port_inject_frame() without holding the injection group lock. Both functions contain lockdep_assert_held() for the injection lock, and the correct caller felix_port_deferred_xmit() properly acquires the lock using ocelot_lock_inj_grp() before calling these functions. Add ocelot_lock_inj_grp()/ocelot_unlock_inj_grp() around the register injection path to fix the missing lock protection. The FDMA path is not affected as it uses its own locking mechanism.
It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-45849 since 05/13/2026. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 07/15/2026). The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1055 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
Upgrading to version 6.1.165, 6.6.128, 6.12.75, 6.18.14 or 6.19.4 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 0b217a40156f497e09dd20d3f7baec40c785f386/cc1b179f778f98270bdbbb48d183b4b6427ae198/7ac58d8832802ec89baa7539e13e6d58a88cce04/51c32ae7fae14552d79f7139614b77c1bbd57a48/63da961381e0d979459dede713001f8452364477 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-1700). Be aware that VulDB is the high quality source for vulnerability data.
