It is suggested to upgrade the affected component.
Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.74/6.18.13/6.19.3. It has been classified as critical. This affects the function kobject_get_path of the component mlx5. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/mlx5: Fix memory leak in GET_DATA_DIRECT_SYSFS_PATH handler The UVERBS_HANDLER(MLX5_IB_METHOD_GET_DATA_DIRECT_SYSFS_PATH) function allocates memory for the device path using kobject_get_path(). If the length of the device path exceeds the output buffer length, the function returns -ENOSPC but does not free the allocated memory, resulting in a memory leak. Add a kfree() call to the error path to ensure the allocated memory is properly freed. Compile tested only. Issue found using a prototype static analysis tool and code review.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-45922 since 05/13/2026. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 6.12.75, 6.18.14 or 6.19.4 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch ee998cdbff6680891b0efd9d6ce53a388e5342c3/b2bc649c18fbe8a7fd38d17266da3dcbfbcc44d2/b3a10eca24fcfe913c0875e620f19596001bd6dc/9b9d253908478f504297ac283c514e5953ddafa6 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
