Details
A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.139/6.12.87/6.18.29/7.0.6 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown part of the component wifi. The manipulation of the argument buf_len with an unknown input leads to a infinite loop vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-835. The product contains an iteration or loop with an exit condition that cannot be reached, i.e., an infinite loop. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: mt76: mt7921: fix a potential clc buffer length underflow The buf_len is used to limit the iterations for retrieving the country power setting and may underflow under certain conditions due to changes in the power table in CLC. This underflow leads to an almost infinite loop or an invalid power setting resulting in driver initialization failure.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-46136 since 05/13/2026. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 6.6.140, 6.12.88, 6.18.30, 7.0.7 or 7.1-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch e451c325b000b9a0081fd93bc6d103d6943d4b55/90cc573fd2f46ddbc2c329e7814b5ba3deb7b939/0aa63d33742b805d1a218d18d12b983cce4b2f7b/a0111847f0b4f6023f6dd320114697514e024ba3/5373f8b19e568b5c217832b9bbef165bd2b2df14 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
