Linux Kernel up to 7.1-rc2 drm sdma_v4_0_ring_emit_fence denial of service

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Performing a manipulation results in denial of service. This vulnerability is reported as CVE-2026-46220. No exploit exists. It is suggested to upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.139/6.12.89/6.18.31/7.0.8/7.1-rc2. It has been classified as critical. This affects the function sdma_v4_0_ring_emit_fence of the component drm. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/amdgpu/sdma4: replace BUG_ON with WARN_ON in fence emission sdma_v4_0_ring_emit_fence() contains two BUG_ON(addr & 0x3) assertions that verify fence writeback addresses are dword-aligned. These assertions can be reached from unprivileged userspace via crafted DRM_IOCTL_AMDGPU_CS submissions, causing a fatal kernel panic in a scheduler worker thread. Replace both BUG_ON() calls with WARN_ON() to log the condition without crashing the kernel. A misaligned fence address at this point indicates a driver bug, but crashing the kernel is never the correct response when the assertion is reachable from userspace. The CS IOCTL path is the correct place to filter invalid submissions; the ring emission callback is too late to do anything about it.
