Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Elastic Kibana up to 8.19.15/9.3.4. This issue affects some unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
A path traversal vulnerability was identified in Kibana's dashboard management functionality. An authenticated user with limited permissions could create a dashboard with a specially crafted identifier. When an administrator subsequently attempts to delete this dashboard through the Kibana interface, the deletion request is redirected to an unintended internal endpoint, potentially resulting in the unauthorized deletion of user accounts or other resources. Exploitation requires an administrator to perform a delete action on the maliciously crafted dashboard object.
It is possible to read the advisory at discuss.elastic.co. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-33462 since 03/20/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 06/05/2026). The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1006 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
