Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Canonical Ubuntu Linux 6.8/6.17/7.0. This affects the function kmalloc of the component AppArmor. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a free of memory not on the heap vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-590. The product calls free() on a pointer to memory that was not allocated using associated heap allocation functions such as malloc(), calloc(), or realloc(). This is going to have an impact on integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Ubuntu Linux 6.8, 6.17 and 7.0 contain AppArmor SAUCE patches which incorrectly attempt to free a pointer which was not previously kmalloc()d, while at the same time leaking allocated memory. The bug can be triggered by an unprivileged local user and can result in the corruption of slab metadata and could lead to resource exhaustion.
The weakness was disclosed by Tristan Madani. It is possible to read the advisory at git.launchpad.net. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-47328 since 05/19/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
