libsolv EdDSA PGP Signature Verification stack-based overflow

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability labeled as critical has been found in libsolv. This vulnerability affects unknown code of the component EdDSA PGP Signature Verification. Such manipulation leads to stack-based overflow. This vulnerability is listed as CVE-2026-48863. There is no available exploit. The affected component should be upgraded.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in libsolv (the affected version unknown) and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown part of the component EdDSA PGP Signature Verification. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:

A flaw was found in libsolv. A stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the PGP verification component due to incorrect length handling when copying EdDSA 's' MPI into a stack buffer. A remote attacker could craft a malicious Ed25519 PGP signature with mismatched MPI lengths. Processing this crafted signature could lead to a denial of service in automated package or repository processing workflows.

The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-48863. The exploitation is known to be easy. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 322932 (SUSE SLED15: libsolv-devel / libsolv-tools / libsolv-tools-base / libzypp / etc (SUSE-SU-2026:2575-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
