Affected by this issue is some unknown processing in the library hxvz.dll of the component ActiveX Control Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. The HxTocCtrl ActiveX control (hxvz.dll), as used in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 SP4 and 6 SP1, in Windows XP SP2, Server 2003 SP1 and SP2, Vista SP1, and Server 2008, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via malformed arguments, which triggers memory corruption.

The bug was discovered 04/08/2008. The weakness was shared 04/08/2008 with Microsoft as MS08-023 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2008-1086 since 02/28/2008. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
