Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in NEZUMI Text::LineFold up to 2019.001 on Perl. Affected is the function break. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a amplification vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-405. The product does not properly control situations in which an adversary can cause the product to consume or produce excessive resources without requiring the adversary to invest equivalent work or otherwise prove authorization, i.e., the adversary's influence is "asymmetric." This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
Text::LineFold versions through 2019.001 for Perl duplicate the output based on the number of special break characters. Text::LineFold splits the input string by specific line break characters (such as VT, FF and others) into segments, but applies the break function to the entire string, not just the segment. A side effect of this is that the full input can be duplicated for each segment. Besides being incorrect, this can lead to unexpected resource consumption and possible denial of service. Note that Text::LineFold is part of the Unicode-LineBreak distribution, which may have a higher version number than the module.
The advisory is shared for download at metacpan.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-8594 since 05/14/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1499.
